Chevelle, Once Again, Rocks My World

soooo.. my mind.. has been blown.
for the second time in my life ive had the pleasure of seeing my favorite band, Chevelle (as im sure you all know by now) last week. actually, almost two weeks ago, but im a little behind on my blogging lately. anyways.. we all know i love them and the first time i saw them was almost two years ago. i honestly dont know if i can even say i saw them seeings how i missed most of their set and i saw them at a huge venue .. i was in the back. this time around i was lucky enough to see Chevelle at my favorite venue, Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Rhode Island. so first im gonna talk about the venue:
literally, my favorite place to go. no matter where you are in the place it feels like youre right in front of the stage. i stood back this time, i did not mosh. i wanted to purely enjoy the show. i stood on the stairs behind the pit and i literally felt like i was right in front of Pete Loeffler. Lupos is just an incredible place and you should all go there at some point- im gonna miss the place when im out of state in college next year.
when the lights dimmed and Janus came on stage i was kind of unexcited simply because i did not know who they were- i had never in my life heard of Janus. the band is a four member group out of Chicago (the same place Chevelle is from) and i must say.. they were great. i loved them live and since the concert i have been listening to them a lot and i really like them. i think any band who sounds good live and can convince someone to listen to their music having heard it for the first time ever live, is a good band.
after Janus left the stage, Middle Class Rut, not so great. i have never been a huge fan of theirs because i had never listened to them, but what i had heard from them before the concert i enjoyed. however, they were not so fabulous live. very energetic.. barely audible. quite frankly.. they gave me a headache. i do still like their music but that is all im going to say on the matter.
FINALLY! after what seemed like hours of waiting!.....
CHEVELLE!
Pete, Sam, and Dean rocked it!
they opened with 'Antisaint', a personal favorite of mine, and from the second they began i knew i was in for a good show. the Chicago based trio absolutley blew my mind and everyone's in the audience (in fact, there was even a review of this concert in the telegram and gazette the following Friday- and a good review i might add) they sounded crystal clear- much like Janus- Chevelle sounded just as good, if not better, live than on the album.
one of the main reasons that i love Chevelle so much is the riffs and lyrics- obviously a major reason to love any band- but with Chevelle i feel that all of their songs can morph to one's feelings. im one of those people who use music to get through everything.. with some bands (i.e. nirvana, three days grace, etc..) their music tends to mainly one mood. with Chevelle, i can play them when im sad or angry, when im happy, even when im trying to get pumped up. they are one of the only bands who i feel can pretty much never go wrong. this show was the most incredible experience i have had and i am so happy to say that they were the first concert i have seen in  2012. amazing, amazing job. great band.
throughout the entire set, including 'Face to the Floor' 'Closure' 'Jars' and 'Forfeit' (a little something from every album-literally) the crowd was pumped up. at no point did i hear anyone say 'okay! how long til this is over?' the only complaint i heard while leaving the venue was 'really? i have to drive home in this shit?' and 'damn.. my feet hurt from jumping so much.'
my personal favorite song to see preformed? 'The Red'. Oddly enough, because of all the songs they played its not my favorite on the albums- a pleasent surprise.
amazing show.. i honestly cannot wait to see them preform again, as soon as possible.

this is my view.. the picture was taken from my phone so obviously we were actually a little closer than it seems (i dont understand why phone cameras do that) but it was a great view.. and once again, the boys did great.

go to www.chevelleinc.com to learn more about the bands.
their albums are available on iTunes, on amazon, online, and in stores.

im baaack.. and hoping to raise a little awareness

hey guys! im back! i know its been a really long time since ive been able to sit down and blog. ive been super busy with college stuff and school, its been insanity. plus, ive been using pretty much all my spare time to spend with family or working on my screenplay that i am hopefully filming this summer (:
thanks for being supportive of my time off everyone! now that im back there should be a lot of good blogging coming up, ive seen a lot of really really good films lately! AND.. as you all know i am obsessed with Chevelle, i saw them live for the second time on friday the 2nd. there is a review of the show coming this week.

okay. now its time to address an issue that is a bit less happy than what i would usually blog about. today i wanna take a little time to talk about the issue of bullying and one band who i think has been doing a great job at using there voices and influence to talk about this issue. this band is Shinedown. im a big fan of Shinedown and i love there music, so when i first heard the single 'Bully' off their upcoming album i was honestly a little overjoyed. i decided to talk about the song today because its the day that the music video premiered and i, personally, think that this song is moving and if shared can help to make a difference.

there has been so much talk of bullying in the media lately, as well as talk of suicide. unfortunatley people of all ages and genders and races are being bullied and picked on everyday. this saddens me because i have seen a lot of my friends be bullied as well as being bullied once or twice myself. i feel that everyone should feel good about themselved because putting others down does nothing but cause mental and emotional damage to many people all around the world. recently a few celebrities have spoken up about their experiences with bullying and i think that Shinedown coming out with this song is honestly one of the most amazing things they have done career wise. to see a rock band, especially one as influential and well known as Shinedown, speaking up against bullying will hopefully bring more awareness to this issue and to a wider audience.

basically, the point of this little blog is just to say thank you to the members of the band for all that they are doing to help speak up against the issue of bullying.
this is an issue that is near and dear to me and something that i really hope the world can overcome. with all the other issues of the world, wars and disease and poverty, why are we making life more difficult for those around us unneccesarily? it just does not make sense. hopefully, together we can make a difference and help to stop this problem.

Again, thank you to all the members of Shinedown and please, please keep on doing what youre doing.

--if you would like to help out you can visit Shinedown's facebook page and/or their website. while youre there, be sure to pre-order the upcoming album, 'Amaryllis' available on March 27, 2012.
--also, please visit www.shopawearness.com and pick up one of their #stopbullying t shirts (:

thank you for your awareness and please help to spread the word!

thanks for your patience and everything else!

Chevelle Debuts Hats Off To The Bull, Four and a half Stars

Tuesday December 6, 2011- Rock band Chevelle releases their sixth studio album, Hats Off To The Bull. All any of my friends have heard about for the past few months has been this album. I would have to keep them updated on the progress of the album- each time a new song was release, anytime a new occupy video came out, every little detail.
Now that the album is out and I have had a full 24 hours to listen and enjoy I feel as though I can fully report how I feel. In Love. I will admit that the first listen through of this album I was not quite sure I would really love Hats Off as much as I love all of Chevelle's other work. As many of you can probably imagine, I was a little disappointed about this. Especially because I loved the two songs released off of the album prior to its own release- Face To The Floor and Hats Off To The Bull- I thought the two songs were so amazing and they made me even more excited about the album. However, after I heard the album a second time through, I am indeed happy to report that I am very much impressed with Hats Off.
The newest album is very different than any of their previous had been. The band definatly played around with different riffs and beats and even the lyrics (obviously each song they have ever done differs in these ways, but this album has a new and different sound about it). Any fan of Chevelle will listen to Hats Off and be pleasently surprised with the new sound of the alt rockers. It is very clear and evident that Chevelle certainly do not plan on slowing down anytime soon. I believe that any good band must grow and evolve to keep their fan base pleased. Face to the Floor, the first song to be released off the album, sounds more like their other work than many of the other  songs on the album but still states a clear message about Occupy, this makes the song different than many others of theirs because generally, Chevelle's songs are qiute metaphorical. The issues addressed in the songs are not usually as blatent than that of Face to the Floor.
Hats Off To The Bull, the next song to be released, diverges from the Chevelle path just a bit. Its sound is just slightly different than their usual. When one hears the first two singles they would probably be expecting an album similar to it's predecessors, however, when they first listen to all of Hats Off this thought will soon be changed.
Once the whole album is revealed it becomes quite obvious that Sam, Dean and Pete wanted to do something different than their general music. With some bands, when they try to differ their sounds it doesnt work. Chevelle, on the other hand, seem to have done a very good job at evolving themselves as a band.
The new album, as a whole is excellent and deserves five stars. The only reason that I have rated this CD with four and a half stars is simply because I wanted more. When the album ended, I was sad and wanted it to keep going. I mean, they could have just added a few more hours of songs..
My personal favorite songs off the album have to be Hats Off To The Bull, and thr Meddler. I would absolutly reccomend this to not only Chevelle fans, but to anyone. The album is very easy to listen to.
Sam, Pete, and Dean have done it again. Amazing as always. Very well done, boys. (:

Cut Nickelback some Slack!

Okay guys, so this one isnt a review, its really just my opinion on this matter. As many of you know, Nickelback has been getting a lot of bad press lately, mostly through word of mouth by their 'fans'. First of all, appearently they have been named the least appealing band, meaning that if one were to go onto a dating website and see on someone's profile under the favorite music tab and saw Nickelback, it would be a huge turnoff to them (personally, I think Lady GaGa or Justin Bieber or something would be a bigger turnoff- I mean, have you heard of the Jonas Brothers?! haha). Second, after it was released to the public that the band would be playing the Thanksgiving Day halftime at a football game (The Bucks werent playing, so I honestly do not know who was) some football viewers began a petition to get them fired from the halftime show! Seriously, whats up with that?
How can someone be so outraged by the band hired to play at a football game? I mean, seriously, its about the football, not the music. Now, personally, I like the older Nickelback music more than the more recent because their songs do seem to be getting a little bit more repetative recently. However, they are still selling a shit ton of albums and their shows still seem to be getting sold out all over the place! They have definatly made a name for themselves in the music industry, and of course, built themselves a huge fan base.
Basically, the way I view all of this controversy (so to say) is to just say.. who cares? and leave them alone, they are insanly successful and do not plan on slowing down. So leave them be, I dont like Miley Cyrus, if I found out she was playing a Bucks halftime shows I still would not try to get her fired.. just because I dont like her does not mean nobody else wants to see her preform.
UGGGH!
as always, remember to light it on up and pass it around!

Band of Brothers Review

hello everyone!
today i was thinking that i would review band of brothers for you all! now, i am not completely positive about which came first: band of brothers or the pacific.. but i believe it goes like this...
after tom hanks did saving private ryan he made band of brothers in 2001 and then came back a few years later to make the pacific. i have never watched the pacific, but i have seen band of brothers and this is what i have to say about the miniseries.
band of brothers follows the 101st airborn unit during world war two, the making of this miniseries very clearly knew what they were doing because band of brothers is arguably one of the best made shows or movies about WWII. the makers of band of brothers created the show carefully and thouroughly. simply the way band of brothers was made is enough to persuade one to follow the miniseries.
the story, however, is one that proves truly incredible. as the miniseries follows this 'band of brothers' through their time in europe during this war, changing the point of view in each episode. what many do not realize as they become so captivated by the miniseries is that this is infact the true story of the 101st airborn. one of the best aspects of this miniseries is that females and males will love it! it is easy to understand and visually extremely pleasing.
if one would like to check it out, just to test the waters, i would suggest either parts 1, 6, or 9. part one, obviously is a good part to test the waters with because it is the first one, and will explain many things about the miniseries. but parts 6 and 9 are both able to stand alone, they are two parts which are easy to understand without needing all of the back story to understand.
i could go on and on for hours about band of brothers, if anyone would like me to go more in depth about the cinematic aspects of the miniseries or the entertaining aspects feel free to let me know and i shall do so.
but for now, i must move along to others things on my night's to-do list.
as always!
light it on up, and pass it around!
